Welcome to Bloggers Edmonton, the intent of this site is to create a blogroll for Edmonton bloggers to promote fellow Edmontonians blogs. If you wish to join, e-mail me and I will add your name to the list, providing of course you are in fact from Edmonton. As I have another blog, the Blogging Party of Canada, my time here will be sparce. I am also open to any ideas you may have, just let me know.......

City of Edmonton has gone NUTS!

On my way home from work, I was listening to 630 CHED as I often do. I was apalled appon hearing that our city council is suggesting a 9.8% property tax hike for the 2007 budget! Are they out of their %$@#&* minds? I'm fairly sure that this will be no where near the actual increase, however I for one am going to let them know how unexceptable this is. They better take a very hard look at their budget and do some serious thinking about it. I can guarentee that those whom support this will not see the light of day come the next municipal election.

I must point out that not everyone in Alberta is rolling in dough as many seem to think. Perhaps if I were one of those folks I would not care. Perhaps if my parents were not on a fixed income, I would not care. Perhaps if I was one of those well above average income earning councillors or the mayor, I would not care.

I suggest every citizen of Edmonton show your outrage and call or write your councillor and Mayor Stephen Mandel NOW!

Bloggers Edmonton Needs a New Belt

Like a stomach after Christmas turkey, Bloggers Edmonton has grown larger yet, with not one but TWO new additions in the area of politics.

Le Revue Gauche is a site of a different color, run by Eugene with whom I have had the pleasure of a few debates which are normally pretty interesting. Eugene brings the communist vision with him into a debate, which when styled after certain past leaders has actually been advantageous to some countries, in some ways at least. Welcome Eugene

I Pretend My Name Is Devendra is going to give us political junkies a tough time with all of our constant drivel !!! You see, this site is run by a Political Science major at Grant MacKewan. Devendra is new to the blogging scene and getting the hang of posting before she shows us all up with his scholastic genius. Careful Devendra, us old dogs are pretty stubborn.....lol. By the way Devendra, if you ever see a contractor working on the blinds or projection screens at Grant MacKewan, stop and say hi, that's me.

Oilers Flames Shootout

Last night the Oilers and Flames tested new froaen waters in the NHL. After 60 minutes of play, the game was ties, and we got our first look at the new NHL shootout rule. Personaly, I think the Oilers just let the Flames tie them so they could see how it would work, as we all know that in a real game, the Flames are hardly qualified to sharpen the Oilers skates.

With Jarome Iginla, Tony Amonte, Daymond Langkow, Roman Hamrlik and Jordan Leopold left in Cowtown, the Calgary power play stiffed, going 0-for-10. Morrison, pushing for a job behind Ty Conklin, had something to do with that, making 24 saves.

Was there ever any doubt? But the fans rose to their feet for the big finale, the shootout.
Ryan Smyth, the pride of Edmonton rolled in while Brent Krahn was no doubt shaking in his boots, hey, maybe boots woulda helped, and pounded one into the webbing, giving Edmonton the win. No doubt the first of many, many more. At least the NHL is nice enough to let the Flames play with the big boys.......

With the recent signing of Ryan Smith the Oilers are all set. We came in around 7 million under the cap, and close to a million under the projected budget. It's gonna be a helluva season and I for one am looking forward to seeing Chris Pronger perform. Chances are looking good this year. Our first match is this weekend against Calgary, it's nice to have an easy game to start the season, unless of course Calgary sends it's midget "A" boys team in place of the Flames, then they might have some game. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say 4-1 for the Oilers, with Smitty getting 2 and Pronger getting 1, not sure who will get the fourth. Calgarys goal will be scored by the Zamboni going on the ice too early, but the refs will allow it as it would be the fastest player they have.........

Calgary Destroyed

In a freak explosion, believed to be related to the Calgary Stampede, Calgary was completely wiped off the map yesterday. Experts believe the excess buildup of manure from the Calgary Stampede, as well as the constant crap heard about the Calgary Flames, was ignited by a spark created by two stepping in a local Calgary bar. On the upside, experts also say that removing Calgary from the Alberta population will no doubt create a large increase in the average IQ of Alberta, one source even claimed a rise of 30 to 40 points. There is no sign of the Calgary CFL team the Stampeders even though they were not in Calgary at the time of the explosion, but police are not looking for the players, as the team hasn't been on the map for years anyway, and have been even harder to find on any stats sheet. All flights and buses to Calgary have been closed, as it no longer exists........

The First Additions

The first bloggers I have added are Walking Up On Planet X, and TABaker, and of course my own, The Blogging Party of Canada. All are political/personal blogs and are written to the highest quality, complete with a ton of research. I have been a regular on the threads of both blogs since their inceptions, and have become friends with both owners. Tim at TABaker I work with, and I am going to hit him up for help on this as well, except he doesn't know it yet....lol. Be sure to visit them and voice your opinion......
